Guided Tours
Battle of Queenston Heights Battlefield Tour
Starting from the base of Brock’s Monument, follow our costumed staff on a 45 minute guided tour of the Battlefield of Queenston Heights, including stops at the redan battery, and cliff’s edge. Learn about the causes of the War of 1812, the key players in the Battle of Queenston Heights, including the famous Major General Sir Isaac Brock, the role of the Indigenous warriors, and the outcome of the battle! The tour concludes with a climb to the top of Brock's Monument.
Reconstructing the Battle of Queenston Heights from Different Perspectives
This 45-minute program will use the monuments and plaques (including Brock's Monument, the Landscape of Nations Memorial, and the Coloured Corps plaques) on Queenston Heights as a backdrop to discuss the causes of the War of 1812, and the Battle of Queenston Heights. The Battle of Queenston Heights was the first major battle of the War of 1812, and saw British Redcoats stand shoulder-to-shoulder with militiamen (including the Coloured Corps), and Indigenous warriors as equals, defending Upper Canada. Through first-hand accounts, this program will highlight the role the British Army, Canadian Militia, the Coloured Corps, Indigenous warriors, and women played at the battle and in the War of 1812 in general.
The History of Brock's Monuments and the Lasting Legacy of Major General Sir Isaac Brock
This 45-minute program will discuss the Battle of Queenston Heights, and what happened after Brock was fatally wounded on the battlefield. It will highlight the importance of Brock in early Canadian history, discussing the construction and destruction of his first monument, followed by a discussion on the construction of the second monument, and the lasting legacy it represents today. We will also highlight the deep connection between Brock's Monument and the Landscape of Nations Memorial, which commemorates the Indigenous contribution to the War of 1812.
Cost: $4.00 per student; $5.00 per adult — we offer one complimentary chaperone fee for every 10 students.
Climb Brock's Monument
No visit to Brock’s Monument is complete without climbing the 235 steps to the top of Brock’s Monument where you can enjoy a commanding view of the surrounding landscape.
